How to organize your baby's christening ceremony...

You have probably attended many baptisms, but going as a guest is not the same as organizing the baptism of your son or daughter.

That's why we're guiding you through some points you should keep in mind when organizing a dream christening.

The first thing you should do is choose the church and the date.

We recommend celebrating at the parish corresponding to your address or the nearest one. It is necessary to present a series of documents to the Parish Office, so we advise you to find out beforehand which documents you must have up to date..

Next, choose the godparents. You must be very careful when choosing them, as they will act as the parents' substitutes in the event of the parents' absence and will also support the parents in the child's Catholic upbringing. Godparents must be over 16 years old and have been baptized and confirmed. They are usually people very close to the parents, and although it's not necessary, it's common to choose one from the father's side and one from the mother's. Currently, you can choose only godmothers, only godfathers, or several if you wish.
Godparents must always complete a course; you will be informed at the Church which days they must attend.

Depending on the time and scale of the baptism, you can hold a reception. Baptisms are usually in the early morning or around midday, so you can offer breakfast or lunch for your guests and celebrate with your family.

When choosing clothes for a child's baptism, it's important to know that for a religious baptism, they should wear white or cream, as a symbol of purity. Traditionally, children wore christening gowns; however, nowadays any other outfit they feel comfortable in, as long as it's light-colored, is perfectly acceptable.

Christening invitations can be as simple or elegant as you like. They can include a photo of the child and/or children's motifs as decoration. Although pink and blue are traditionally associated with girls and boys respectively, the rest of the color palette is increasingly being used regardless of the child's gender. It is recommended to opt for soft or pastel colors.

It is also traditional that at the end of the baptism, the guests take home a souvenir, which can be personalized with a children's item, the name of the boy or girl, and the date of the baptism.

What does it mean to be a Godmother?

Being a godmother to a baby is not just about being with him on the day of his baptism. It's not just about giving him gifts on special occasions. This privilege comes with responsibilities, some of which are:
